PSHE

At St Mary & St Thomas CE Primary School, we use the Jigsaw program for our PSHE (Personal, Social, Health, and Economic) lessons because we believe it’s essential in helping our pupils grow into well-rounded, responsible citizens of modern Britain. Although PSHE is not statutory, it plays a vital role in preparing our students for the challenges and opportunities they will face in today’s world. Jigsaw’s structured, age-appropriate lessons support emotional literacy, resilience, and self-awareness, which align beautifully with our values as a Gold Rights Respecting School and a Gold Carnegie Mental Health School. These awards reflect our commitment to promoting a respectful, inclusive, and mentally healthy school environment, and Jigsaw provides the perfect foundation for this important work. Through Jigsaw, we empower our pupils with the skills and understanding they need to succeed, make positive contributions, and lead fulfilling lives.

Jigsaw’s range of inspired teaching programmes focus on developing each child’s emotional literacy, social skills, well being and uniqueness through curriculum programmes for RE and PSHE (taught inside and outdoors), at the same time as enhancing the ‘whole school community’ ethos with assemblies, Games for lunchtimes and the Jigsaw Families Programme for supporting parents.

Jigsaw, the mindful approach to PSHE (Personal, Social, Health Education), systematically develops children’s inner worlds, empowering them as unique individuals enjoying positive relationships with self and others, and thereby becoming self-regulating effective learners with agency.
