Welcome to Year 5's class page. Below you will find information relating to Year 5 life.
Year 5 Class Teacher: Mr Jones
Year 5 Learning Support Assistant: Mr Lacey
In our English work, we develop our reading and writing skills through stories, drama, poetry and exciting, first- hand experiences. Enjoyment of reading and a love of books are encouraged through individual, guided and shared reading activities we encourage the children to read every day at home, too!
In mathematics, we take part in lots of practical activities involving number, shape, space, measure, and problem- solving. We work alone, in partners, in small groups and as a class to improve our Numeracy skills and relate them to real-life situations.
The Lunar Curriculum includes History, Geography, Design Technology, Art and ICT and these subjects are taught through topics and key questions. We are currently working on our WWII topic. The children also have weekly sessions of R.E., Music, Science and P.E.
P.E. The children take part in athletics, dance and gymnastic activities and need their P.E.kit in school all of the time.
The children must bring their reading book home every day and must read at least 5 times a week. The children will get homework on Wednesday to be returned the following Tuesday at the latest. Homework will include spellings, english or maths homework and, once a term, a research project!
A variety of clubs are available before and after school and this programme changes every half term.
We have a fruit/tuck shop every day at playtime. Healthy snacks are available for your child to buy at a price of approximately 30p per item.
At the beginning of each academic year, we provide parents/carers with a class handbook which contains lots of useful information and prompts that you can use at home with your child. If you would like a copy of this please ask your child's class teacher.
If you have any questions about Year 5, please speak to a member of our staff.
